Happiness is not complicated.
Happiness is a lot like our Program. Our Program is straightforward.
Happiness is simple; we can reduce it to a simple arithmetic formula. It is not algebra or exotic geometry. It is mere arithmetic:
Happiness = Reality – Expectations
Happiness is as precise as arithmetic. And at its essence arithmetic is simple. Addition and subtraction. Learned at an early age.
Happiness is a normal state when at rest, and when I am in a state of open acceptance of my situation and myself. In that state, it can be rated at 100%. My expectations reduce it. It is that simple.
When I am in an excellent spiritual zone, I accept Reality and enjoy it, no matter how difficult it may be. I can live with grace and poise, seemingly able to handle anything that life hands out. But when I have expectations, I have problems.
If I expect that everyone is going to treat me well, I am almost always disappointed; my Happiness is reduced. When I think that I should get an award and the other guy gets it instead; my Happiness is diminished. If I believe that I am going to skip merrily through the day, I will trip over something for sure; my Happiness is reduced. But all three Realities, without expectations, would be like water off a duck’s back.
When I have no expectations, then I am content with Reality. I desire nothing more than what is there in front of me. But when I have expectations, my Happiness is reduced.
So, Happiness is simple.
