Acronyms as Tools for Life: STEP – Solution To Every Problem
Acronyms are a quick and effective way to remember rules for living. One that stands out to me is:
STEP – Solution To Every Problem
This acronym resonates with me for two reasons: one for this blog, and one for the next.
How the Twelve Steps Solve Problems
Every problem I have faced has been solved, dissolved, or resolved by applying the Steps. Here’s how:
- STEP One: Admit powerlessness over recurring problematic behaviors and recognize they make life unmanageable.
- STEP Two: Understand that the problem lies in my thinking.
- STEP Three: Develop the habit of pausing, praying, and listening when triggers arise.
- STEP Four: Observe triggers through a thorough personal inventory.
- STEP Five: Discuss inventory findings to identify character defects and address them.
Speaking of inventories, they are my favourite step. My annual, quarterly, and monthly inventories, even after many decades, continue to reveal character insights and produce good outcomes.
The STEPs work consistently and effectively on all types of challenges.
Looking Ahead
In the next blog, I will share yet another reason why STEP is a great acronym for navigating life.
