Are you looking for a fix-it fairy?

God is not a Fix-It fairy.

He does not come by and sprinkle pixie dust on me and my problems then fly away leaving me fixed and repaired. He does not flutter by on gossamer wings and touch me with a magic wand, and voila, I am transformed from an absolute fool to a beautiful person, full of charm and complete in all respects. He is not a Peter Pan, crossing His fingers and wishing, with the audience, that I was changed to a good-tempered and courteous person.

No, he is your God and my God. God as we, each of us, understood Him in our lives and in our experience. He is a very personal God known and understood as each of us has experienced Him.

That being said, there are some common denominators. All AA’s Gods seem to share some things in common.

He is not a “Fix It Fairy.”

First, He demands that we do some of the work. He requires that we do an inventory. And then demands that we have a confessional conversation to review it and come to understand the root causes of the problems that we have been experiencing. Then He requires that we ask Him to help. So, He is a demanding God, and all of our experiences in the Rooms (at least the ones that I am aware of) indicate that we have to, each of us, take these steps to get anywhere.
