This GEM is from a meeting some months ago in Thunder Bay.
Forgiveness is letting go of what I think it should be.
What a wise statement. It ties acceptance to forgiveness. It allows me to release my little visions and expectations and get on with life. It does not ask whose harm was the greater. It does not demand that I forget or ignore, just accept and move on. It allows love to breathe.
And this little ‘one-liner’ fits with the serenity prayer so smoothly and gracefully that it seems they are meant for each other. I have to accept that which I cannot change, having discerned what I cannot change with wisdom from God. Accepting means that I have forgiven.
