A share at a meeting: “It is amazing how long the day is when you are there for the whole thing.”
Laughed out loud we did. For it really is the truth. The sensation of being present for the whole day is amazing. I can feel the difference. The biggest difference is that there seems to be so much time. I can get so much more done.
Time seems to elongate when I get out of the way and savour each moment of the day. Focussing on what is in front of me, I realize that I am fascinated by and interested in life and in what I am doing. But more importantly, I find that there is more than enough time to do everything that needs to be done. The same hour of time when I am in the moment is more productive than an hour of not living in the here and now. The same 60 minutes has a higher yield and output.
And I see and hear more. Preparing for a meeting, I can worry about how I look or I can focus on the agenda. Once the meeting starts, if I am not worrying about what I am going to say next or how I look, I can concentrate on what is being said. If it is a controversial subject, I can sense the undercurrents of the meeting and more clearly see the agendas of everyone involved. It is relaxing. The truth of situations seems to be laid out before me. I intuitively know how to handle situations that used to baffle me.
So, to live in the moment, the here and now, is practical as well as spiritual advice.
