Chris L. and I have started working together in Victoria. In our first session, he said: “there is more to my life than me.”
Wow, what a great thought. And Chris has about 60 days in the program; out of the mouths of babes!
We strive to be relieved of the bondage of self, that is our solution. We have found our solution on both a spiritual and an altruistic plane.
In the first plane, spiritual, I transcend my concept of self. On the second plane, altruistic, I step outside of myself. Both planes demonstrate the fact that my solution requires me to live in a manner that is based upon the proposition that Chris stated so clearly: “There is more to my life than me.”
We in AA live on the basis that there is more to our lives than us.
There is more. So much within one phrase. Dimensions and layers of meaning.
There is more about my life than me – there is my Higher Power, the Fellowship, my family, clients, my friends, and on and on. There is a lot more to my life than me. I would do well to pay attention to the non-me elements of my life, for therein lies the richness and texture of life. The joys of life are in friends, family and my Higher Power, the fundamental relationships that make up my life.
Life is so much more than merely me and myself occupied with I.
And the results or effects of my life are more than me – I think of the accomplishments and services that I have performed. The actions and results that I have obtained or created. These exceed the boundaries of me and my being. I am a cause, and there are many non-me consequences.
So much more than just me and myself serving I.
My life is built on others. Parents that brought me into this world and nurtured me. Teachers who taught me lessons, good and bad both. Clients or employers that gave me sustenance in return for services. The economy that allowed me to live. Churches that gave me a legacy of faith and knowledge. So much more than just me and myself supporting I.
Yes, my life is much more than just me and myself serving I.
Thank you, Chris.
